Being still
In this crazy world it’s important to take a few quiet moments to be still and know that He is God.
Perhaps one of the more life altering experiences I’ve had was about 10 years ago, when an old mentor of types and still youth Pastor shared a recent experience he had regarding just getting away from everything and going to pray as he realized he needed something he just didn’t have when he learned he had a newborn son on the way and wanted the strength and wisdom to father him. It shook his world needless to say. It really inspired me to do the same.
For about 2 months, I just got away around 8PM at night and drove off to the middle of nowhere and prayed and listened to worship music and enjoyed the solitude and refound my passion for Christ (and others). I turned and repented from many things that had crept back into my life. During the end of these roughly 2 months, I met my now wife. Funny how things happen you’ve been waiting for longs periods happen when you surrender to God; I don’t think it’s a coincidence hence my mentioning it.
I continued the habit if you will for some time until logistics got in the way frankly. Ironically as I write this article, God’s been wooing me back to that special place just recently, and once again I find it no coincidence when I prayed what to write about next this round, this came to mind as it’s a reminder to myself, and others.
Abiding in the word, but also in prayer and worship, in solitude, is important as when Christ says when you pray (note not if you pray), go and shut the door, and not to let others know. His point being not to be proud and make it something to glorify yourself out of. But, interesting, I found that Christ Himself made it a point of solitude when He prayed too. There’s something about it, when you take yourself away from distractions and just be still, and know that He is God.
